Did you know that wool clothing is the best option if you're in a hot, dry desert? Did you know that downy wool is so warm because each of those tiny little hairs are actually hollow tubes? Did you know that linen gets stronger when it is wet, which is why it was used for ship sails?

This four part course introduces the molecular structures of fiber, and shows you how the traits among animal and plant fibers will affect the functions of the fabrics they produce. The second half of the course is full of walkthrough examples of how you can apply this foundational knowledge to any textile we see or work with. No matter what your skill set or area of expertise, there is something here for every maker, supplier, and consumer.

Hey there folks!

Zack here from Zack's Yoga Plants. When I was 7 years old my grandmother taught me how to crochet, and I was officially infected by the NEED TO PLAY WITH YARN!!!

Since then I have learned how to spin, weave, knit, make lace, natural dye, and felt. I just want to know how to do all the things!

A large portion of my desire to know how to create my own clothes and household goods from natural fibers comes from a core value of sustainability. We live in a world inundated by toxic materials that are harmful to our planet, and ourselves. It is my hope that through education and inspiring wonder I can help more amazing people, just like you, understand the importance of choosing natural fibers for your textile needs.

In addition to yarn I teach about yoga and sustainable gardening.
